MY FIRST DAY IN THE UNIVERSITY: Certainly each and every one of us has a story to tell about one’s first experience in the tertiary institution.
I must confess first day in the university is totally different from your first day in the kindergarten. Mama is not here to lead you into the classroom, neither to give you the needed guidance, you are all grown now and on your own, what we Nigerians tag “OYO STATE”. I felt like dropping out after my first day in the university, I was like a sheep without direction, looking for my department and lecture halls was like looking for a pin inside a river, well this was due to the fact that I had no earlier knowledge or information about my school.
MY FIRST DAY IN THE UNIVERSITY
Meeting different people with different characters, taste, color and race, was such an experience especially when asking for directions, some were rude, cold and nice. Meeting the nice ones can ease you off the stress. But needless to be worried because we have got some tips that will help you out on your fresher experiences.
KNOW ALL THE NOTABLES BEFORE MY FIRST DAY IN THE UNIVERSITY 💡
It’s advisable that before leaving your home for school or anywhere else, you should endeavor to get all the needed information on directions, landmarks, nature and topography of your destination. This will aid easy movement to and fro in the university. And this information’s can be gotten from a graduate of the school, seniors, lecturer and friends.
Asking questions is an important skill needed to accomplish this task, you ask to know. Without asking there’s no two ways to know. Take for instance before obtaining the admission, if you have been asking questions about your school of choice, it’s likely that you will find answers before the actual time. This will enable you get used to the school system even before getting there, so you don’t look like a JJC (JOHNY JUST COME). Information’s such as location and addresses can also be gotten online in case there’s nobody within for guidance. You can also add up friends on social media, whom are genuinely students of the school, make sure they are trustworthy before confiding in them, lastly source for information’s as much as you can.

AS MY FIRST DAY IN THE UNIVERSITY, I’LL GO WITH SOMEONE WHO CAN LEAD
Remember your first day in the kindergarten as a kid, it wasn’t so scary right? Because a guardian was right beside you. It’s always a pleasant experience to start ones first day in school with someone who can lead, maybe an elder sibling or a friend who is a student of the school or someone whom is conversant with the school environment, by doing this you won’t have to go through the stress of asking for directions to faculties, departments, lecture halls.. etc. and this will prevent you from falling into the hands of bullies and rude personalities.
MY FIRST DAY IN THE UNIVERSITY | WATCH BEFORE YOU LEAP
As life may have it, all fingers are not equal, so those our life pattern vary. You may not have someone to guide you, especially when the school is not located nearby or within the state and not a common university which everyone knows perhaps could be a foreign university. Ah but this doesn’t mean you should despair. You just have to be more careful, study the nature of the people you are approaching for help, to avoid falling in the hands of wrong persons especially cultists. Do not quickly jump to follow anyone whom may want to lead you, some may actually lead you to doom e.g falling into the hands of people with bad influence that’s really awful. It would be so wrong to be a victim of cultists right on your first day in school.
MY FIRST DAY IN THE UNIVERSITY : MAKE GOOD FRIENDS
My lecturer once said, the best friends are made in school, this statement has been proven to be true You can make good friends and mentors right on your first day in school, who will guide you all through your stay in school. Well it only depends on how well you play your cards. Man is not an island on his own. Though before coming to school probably someone may have advised you shouldn’t keep friends or much friends, but I tell you friends make the journey easier. When I say friends, I mean good ones, go ahead smile at someone, start a conversation whenever you cross paths with them, who knows they might just be the best friends you never had.
THE JOURNEY HAS BEGUN…
You are now ready to start your university journey; your stay will be worthwhile and remarkable if you make it outstanding. Don’t adhere to negative orientations, remember what you believe is what you get. A first class is possible and should be the aim of every scholar. Remember those who made it don’t have two heads, you too can achieve this.
Just be steadfast in your reading and ensure to obey the rules and regulations. Have a scale of preference, place your priorities first.
The problem with many scholars today is due to misplaced priorities. Know the reason why you are in the university, many today as crazy as it can be doesn’t know why they are in school. Some are in school because it’s the next thing after college, some are in school because their friends are there.
Until you find the true and real purpose of you being in the university I bet you won’t make it outstanding.
Another crucial thing, pay your dues before spending…. Why would you live like a king when owing like a servant? You are just deceiving yourself. There’s a story of a girl who carried over all her courses because of late payment due to spending. Money for tuition should be given to tuition, you can’t rob peter to pay Paul, always give to ceasar what belongs to ceasar, try to make all payments before exams kicks off. The ball is in your court, deal with it, your decisions and actions today determines the outcome of your tomorrow either success or failure. Enjoy your school experience and make it worthwhile.
